Luis Sacristán Murga is an architect and Associate Lecturer at the Royal College of Art's School of Architecture, where he has served as a tutor of Technical Studies for the MA Architecture program since 2018. He also holds visiting lecturer positions at Loughborough University and has previously taught at the Architectural Association in London, ITMO University in Saint Petersburg, the University of Antwerp, and the Polytechnic School of Madrid.
His architectural education spans multiple international institutions, including a Master of Architecture with Distinction from Polytechnic School of Madrid (ETSAM), Lund Technical University, Rhode Island School of Design, and professional studies qualification at The Bartlett. He is a registered architect in both Spain (COAM) and the United Kingdom (ARB).
Luis's research focuses on the intersection of architecture, technology, and urbanism, with particular expertise in adaptive reuse across multiple project scales. His work bridges design theory with practical applications, exploring how existing structures can be transformed for contemporary needs while respecting historical contexts. He has contributed to the Int|AR Journal, the first American academic publication focusing on Design and Adaptive Reuse.
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent exploration of adaptive reuse, architectural interventions, and post-industrial urban transformation. These works connect theoretical frameworks with practical case studies, highlighting the evolving relationship between historical structures and contemporary design needs. His writing often features interviews with prominent architectural practices, providing insights into responsible design approaches.

Professionally, Luis serves as a Senior Associate and Project Leader at Heatherwick Studio since 2015, where he leads significant architectural projects including Xi'an CCBD in China and has contributed to the Google Gradient Canopy campus in Mountain View. He actively participates in community-focused design initiatives through Heatherwick Studio's charity group, currently involved in designing a gazebo for the New Horizon Youth Centre in Kings Cross.
