Luis Kolb, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Yale School of Medicine specializing in complex spine surgery. He is affiliated with the Yale Neurosurgery Department and the Yale Spine Center, where he focuses on complex spine deformity, tumors, degenerative spine diseases, and complex revision surgery.
Dr. Kolb completed his undergraduate training at Johns Hopkins University with dual degrees in Biomedical Engineering and Romance Languages and Literature. He earned his MD from Yale School of Medicine in 2009, followed by a neurosurgical residency and served as Chief Resident at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2016. He completed a CAST and AO Spine accredited Complex Spine Fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 2017.
His research interests center on clinical outcomes of spinal surgery, spinal biomechanics, spinal oncology, and minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Kolb has published extensively on topics including spinal deformity correction, spinal tumors, healthcare resource utilization, and the impact of comorbidities on surgical outcomes. His work often examines how frailty, mental health conditions, and sociodemographic factors affect spine surgery results.
Dr. Kolb is board certified in Neurological Surgery (2022) and maintains active membership in numerous professional organizations including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, AANS/CNS Joint Spine Section, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and North American Spine Society. His clinical practice focuses on patients with complex spinal conditions who have often seen multiple physicians without resolution of their symptoms.
