Luis Gomes

Luis Gomes is an Assistant Professor at the Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP) within the Polytechnic Institute of Porto and a Researcher at GECAD (Research Group in Engineering and Intelligent Computing for Innovation and Development). He has been teaching in the Engineering of Artificial Intelligence MSc program since September 2017. Gomes holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Salamanca (2020), an MSc in Multimedia from the University of Porto (2020), an MSc in Computer Engineering from ISEP (2013), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Electronics Engineering from ISEP (2013).

His research focuses on artificial intelligence applications in energy systems, particularly:

• Multi-agent systems for smart grid management
• Cyber-physical agent design and validation
• Demand response optimization
• Energy forecasting using machine learning
• IoT-based energy monitoring solutions
• Distributed intelligence for renewable integration

His work combines theoretical models with practical implementations in real-world energy infrastructures.

Analysis of his recent publications (2023-2024) reveals strong emphasis on energy communities, AI-driven grid management, and sustainable computing. Dominant themes include multi-agent system architectures, demand response optimization, renewable energy integration, and privacy-preserving data management.
