Luis Garicano is a Full Professor of Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) School of Public Policy. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago and has held academic positions at institutions including the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and IE Business School. His research focuses on organizational economics, digital productivity, and EU policy, with contributions to understanding the impact of technology and institutions on economic growth.
Education: BSc in Economics and Law (Universidad de Valladolid), MSc in European Economic Studies (College of Europe), and a PhD in Economics (University of Chicago). Garicano also served as a Member of the European Parliament (2019–2022), where he contributed to legislation on economic recovery funds and sanctions against Russia.
Research Interests: His work explores organizational design, the effects of digital technologies, and institutional reforms to prevent economic crises in the Eurozone. He has published in top journals like the Quarterly Journal of Economics and Journal of Political Economy.
Key Contributions: Co-developed the ESBies proposal for Eurozone financial stability, authored books on crisis management, and leads the Silicon Continent blog analyzing EU competitiveness challenges. His recent work addresses banking union failures and the geopolitical economic impacts of the Ukraine war.
