Dr. Luis Eduardo Ramirez Camargo is an Assistant Professor in the Energy & Resources group at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. His research focuses on renewable energy integration, spatiotemporal modeling, geographic information systems (GIS), and energy transition pathways, particularly in Latin America and the Global South. He leads projects such as the Horizon Europe WIMBY initiative and serves as PI for the DUT partnership project JUST-PEPP. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable development, combining data science with policy analysis.
He holds expertise in energy meteorology, spatial planning for renewable fuels, and energy communities. Luis coordinates the annual session 'Spatial and Temporal Modeling of Renewable Energy Systems' at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly and contributes to editorial roles in journals like Applied Energy and iScience. He has reviewed for high-impact journals including Nature Energy and PNAS.
His career includes international research leadership in Austria, Belgium, and Germany, with a focus on transdisciplinary projects addressing energy equity and scalability in developing regions. He is a recognized reviewer for funding agencies in Argentina and Chile.
