Luis Diaz is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Architecture, Technology and Engineering, University of Brighton. With a career spanning academia and practice, he focuses on the interplay between spatial practices and forms, informed by theories of the everyday and linguistic frameworks.
- Education: BArch (New York Institute of Technology), MSc in History of Modern Architecture (University College London), MPhil/PhD study (London School of Economics), and postgraduate modules in Semiotics (The New School for Social Research) and Arch Design (The Berlage Institute).
His research explores arrival sequences in British housing, urban promenades, fragmented space, and political dimensions of architectural form. Current work investigates how spatial configurations frame agency in high-density housing contexts.
Key publications address housing identities, Le Corbusier’s technological innovations, and the legacy of modernist housing estates. Awards include a 1998 Van Alen Institute Certificate of Merit and a 2019 HE Fellowship D2.
Diaz contributes to architectural humanities modules, leads Studio 12 for housing design, and has served as course leader for BA(Hons) Architecture. His community engagements involve designing for Rwandan youth organizations and EU-funded urban interventions.
