معرفی
Luis Buatois is a Professor at the University of Saskatchewan specializing in ichnology, sedimentology, and paleoecology. He has conducted fieldwork globally, including Antarctica, Argentina, Australia, and China. His research focuses on Ediacaran to Neogene trace fossil systems and their environmental and evolutionary implications. He has served as President of the International Ichnological Association and plays editorial roles in journals like Scientific Reports and Sedimentary Geology. Buatois has authored over 200 papers and supervised over twenty graduate students.
Research Interests: Ichnology's role in reconstructing ancient ecosystems, sequence stratigraphy, and paleoenvironmental analysis across continental to deep-marine settings. His work emphasizes understanding animal-substrate interactions during major evolutionary transitions like the Cambrian explosion.
Publications & Recognition: Over 200 peer-reviewed articles, five books, and six edited volumes. Notable contributions include studies on trace fossils in lacustrine and marginal-marine systems, and leadership in global ichnological research networks. His work spans diverse environments from Ediacaran microbial mats to Cretaceous chalk reservoirs.
Labs & Collaborations: Maintains the Ichnoplain research group (www.ichnoplanet.ca), integrating international collaborations. His research is funded by NSERC and Saskatchewan Industry and Resources, continuing earlier support from Argentine and international agencies.
