Luis Amaral

Luis Amaral is Professor of Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics at Northwestern University, specializing in complex systems, network science, and computational biology. Research uses data-driven approaches to study biological, social, and technological systems.

Amaral co-directs the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems (NICO). Recent work (2024) includes machine learning models for pneumonia prognosis using EHR data. Honors include Keck Distinguished Young Scholar award, HHMI Early Career Scientist, and fellowships in APS, AAAS, and AIMBE. Mentored 25+ graduate students and 20+ postdocs.
