Luigi Siciliani is a Professor in the Department of Public Health at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), where he is affiliated with the Danish Centre for Health Economics (DaCHE). His research is centered on health economics and public health policy, with a focus on equity, efficiency, and performance measurement in healthcare systems.
His research interests include:
- Healthcare access and socioeconomic inequalities
- Waiting times and rationing in healthcare
- Pay-for-performance schemes and incentive design
- Health policy evaluation
- Immigrant health and labor market integration
- Econometric analysis of health systems
His recent publications analyze the impact of pay-for-performance on access disparities in England, determinants of waiting times across socioeconomic groups, and optimal pricing in performance-based healthcare schemes. The studies employ rigorous econometric methods and are published in top journals such as Health Policy, Health Economics, and Social Science & Medicine. A recurring theme across his work is the interplay between economic incentives, institutional design, and health equity.
He is actively involved in two major research projects:
- The WELLCARE Project (2023–2027): Investigating how physicians’ wellbeing influences care quality and policy responses.
- Inequality in Access to Health Care: Exploring barriers faced by immigrants and marginalized groups, with a focus on labor market and institutional factors.
