Ludwig Nussbichler

Ludwig Nussbichler serves as a faculty member at Mozarteum University in Salzburg, holding the position of Teacher of Composition & Music Theory within the Department of Composition & Music Theory. Since 2015, he has taught improvisation and composition at the Salzburg Pre-College of the Mozarteum University.

His educational background includes:

• Thesis on Alban Berg's "Lyric Suite"
• 1996 master class in composition with Friedrich Cerha at the Summer Academy of the University of Salzburg

Nussbichler's professional work centers on musical composition, theory, and dramaturgy. His compositional expertise spans contemporary classical traditions, informed by his academic work on 20th-century composers like Alban Berg. As a music educator, he bridges theoretical knowledge with practical application through improvisation teaching.

His compositions have been commissioned by major institutions including ORF, Wien modern, the Lower Austrian Tonkünstler Orchestra, and the International Mozarteum Foundation, with performances across Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Russia, Japan and the USA.

Nussbichler has served as music dramaturge directing and curating the Aspekte festival since 2006, and was appointed municipal music school director in Salzburg in 1997, demonstrating his significant contribution to both academic and community music education.
