Lucy Vivash is an Associate Professor (Research) in the Department of Neuroscience at Monash University, Faculty of Medicine. She is an emerging leader in PET radiotracer development for rare neurodegenerative diseases, particularly tauopathies. Her research integrates neuroimaging, biomarker discovery, and translational clinical trials.
Her research interests focus on the role of the tau protein in neurodegeneration, the development of PET-based biomarkers, and the application of imaging to improve diagnosis and treatment of diseases like Progressive Supranuclear Palsy and epilepsy. She employs a strong translational approach, bridging preclinical studies with clinical validation.
Her recent publications highlight a consistent focus on neuroimaging in epilepsy surgery, biomarker development in neurodegenerative and epileptic conditions, and neuroinflammatory mechanisms in post-traumatic epilepsy. These works demonstrate expertise in PET, FDG imaging, automated segmentation, and in vivo pharmacological modeling.
Lucy Vivash has secured significant research funding as a Chief or Primary Chief Investigator from major bodies including the NIH, NHMRC, and Biogen. Her projects include clinical trials of sodium selenate for PSP and epilepsy, development of PET tracers for MS, and med-tech interventions for epilepsy care.
She leads a research group, supervising two PhD students, one MSc student, and three Honours students, and co-supervises additional early-career researchers. She is a member of the iBRAIN research group leadership team and a chief investigator in the Monash Cognition and Imaging Study (MCIS).
She actively collaborates with international consortia such as ENIGMA epilepsy and MELD, contributing to large-scale neuroimaging and epilepsy research initiatives.
