Lucy Michaels is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM) at the University of Warwick, working on the AHRC-funded project 'Ecological Belongings: Transforming soil culture through science, activism and art' (2021–2022). She holds a PhD in Environmental Studies from Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel), alongside MA (Econ) and BA (Econ) degrees in International Development and Social Anthropology from the University of Manchester (UK).
Her research focuses on political economy, science and technology studies, and environmental psychology. Key areas include climate change discourse in Israel, environmental peace-building, and animal welfare. She has conducted mixed-methods research on techno-optimism narratives in Israeli climate policy and barriers to adopting household energy technologies.
Michaels has held roles as a lecturer at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (2006–2012) and a post-doctoral fellow at the School of Sustainability, IDC Herzliya (2013–2015). She is also a USIEF-Fulbright Fellow (2009) and has coordinated major environmental research projects for NGOs like Greenpeace and World Animal Protection through Ecostorm Environmental Investigations since 2015.
Her work bridges academia and activism, addressing transnational environmental challenges and policy failures through interdisciplinary lenses.
