معرفی
Lucy McMahon is a Third Century Research Fellow in Coastal Ecology at Manchester Metropolitan University's Department of Natural Sciences. Her research focuses on coastal wetlands (saltmarshes and seagrass habitats) with an emphasis on marine management, conservation, and restoration. She employs transdisciplinary approaches, collaborating with social scientists and local communities to assess restoration success through multi-dimensional tools combining natural and social science insights.
Education: PhD in Marine Environmental Science from the University of York (2023). Professional memberships include the UK Blue Carbon Forum, Estuarine and Coastal Sciences Association, and Higher Education Academy.
Research Interests: Coastal wetland ecology, restoration ecology, nature-based solutions, blue carbon dynamics, ecosystem services, and marine social science focusing on stakeholder perceptions. Current projects examine saltmarsh carbon accumulation rates and their relationship with sea-level rise.
She works as a marine consultant delivering projects across the marine sector and actively promotes science communication through outreach events, media collaborations, and university workshops. Committed to widening participation in marine education, she engages with Women in STEM initiatives.
Labs/Teams: Part of the Coastal Ecosystems Research Group at MMU and collaborates with organizations like Yorkshire Wildlife Trust on seagrass restoration initiatives.
