Lucrezia Lopez is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Santiago de Compostela, affiliated with the Faculty of Geography and History and the Institute of Studies and Development of Galicia (IDEGA). She holds a PhD from the same university, awarded in 2012 for her thesis on the cultural geography of the Way of St. James in Italy. Her research focuses on pilgrimage studies, urban geography, and tourism management, particularly analyzing the socio-spatial impacts of the Camino de Santiago and post-pandemic urban adaptations. She is a key member of the ANTE research group (Territorial Analysis).
Her work examines cultural landscapes, pilgrimage tourism, and sustainable urban development, with a focus on Santiago de Compostela’s heritage management. Recent studies include gentrification in the San Pedro neighborhood, pandemic-induced urban changes, and the role of cultural landmarks like the City of Culture. She has contributed to debates on overtourism, undertourism, and post-COVID-19 tourism strategies in World Heritage Cities.
Her publications emphasize the interplay between pilgrimage routes, regional development, and spatial policies. She has analyzed maritime heritage in Galicia, geoheritage narratives along the Camino, and the literary representation of pilgrimage spaces. Lopez’s research bridges cultural geography with policy-oriented solutions for heritage conservation and equitable urban planning.
