Lucie Moeller

PD Dr.-Ing. habil. Lucie Moeller is a Research Professor at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ in Leipzig, Germany, working in the Department of Systemic Environmental Biotechnology (SUBT). She leads the working group 'Environmental and Bioprocess Technology' and serves as scientific coordinator for UFZ Green Roof Research and spokesperson for the 'CityTech' platform project focused on urban water and heat management for climate change adaptation.

Dr. Moeller's research focuses on optimization of biotechnological processes for biogenic products and bioenergy production and the development of blue-green infrastructure in urban areas. Her work integrates engineering approaches with environmental science to address climate adaptation challenges in cities. She has contributed to significant projects including CityTech, TRI-SUSTAIN for phytopharmaceutical development in Sub-Saharan Africa, and multiple bioprocess engineering studies on foam formation and wastewater resource recovery.

Her expertise spans bioprocess engineering, environmental biotechnology, and urban climate adaptation technologies. She has coordinated multiple EU and German-funded research initiatives including INCOVER (Innovative Eco-Technologies for Resources Recovery from Wastewater under EU Horizon 2020), Schaum II (foam formation in anaerobic digestion), and AquaMak (aquatic macrophytes optimization).

Dr. Moeller plays an active role in the Leipziger BlauGrün project, Germany's model city initiative for resource-efficient urban districts, which aims to develop practical solutions for sustainable urban development through integrated water and heat management systems.
