Luciano Demasi

Dr. Luciano Demasi is a Professor of Aerospace Engineering and holds tenure at San Diego State University (SDSU), where he also serves as Interim Chair of the Aerospace Engineering Department (2023–2024). He is affiliated with the Computational Science Research Center and has held visiting roles at NASA Ames, the Air Force Institute of Technology, and international institutions like Université Paris Ouest. His academic preparation includes a Ph.D. from the University of Washington and Politecnico di Torino (2004), an M.S. from Politecnico di Torino (1999), and postdoctoral research at the University of Washington (2004–2008).

Dr. Demasi's research focuses on advanced composite structures, aeroelasticity, and structural analysis. Key areas include the Generalized Unified Formulation (GUF) for layered composites, nonlinear aeroelastic phenomena, joined-wing configurations, and induced drag optimization. His work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the AIAA Associate Fellowship (2019) and a 2023 Stanford University ranking placing him in the top 2% of global authors in Aerospace & Aeronautics.

His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Aeroelasticity (AE731), Analysis of Elastic Plates (AE631), and Statics (AE200).
