Lucero Duran Trinidad serves as Lecturer and Chief Flight Instructor at Purdue University's College of Technology within the Department of Aviation Technology. A Purdue alumna with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Technology (2015) and Master's in Aviation and Aerospace Management (2017), she is currently pursuing a PhD in Learning Design & Technology through the College of Education. Her career bridges aviation training expertise and educational theory, focusing on improving instructional methodologies in technical fields.
Her research centers on adapting educational approaches to diverse learner backgrounds, with emphasis on Competency-Based Education, Mastery Learning, and Human Performance Improvement. She investigates how instructors' teaching philosophies impact student outcomes in aviation training environments, particularly regarding attitudinal learning barriers faced by underrepresented groups.
While her publication record consists primarily of academic projects rather than peer-reviewed articles, her work demonstrates strong methodological skills in literature review, research design, and data analysis. Her educational redesign projects for aviation courses showcase practical applications of learning theory.
- Able Flight Instructor of the Year (2014)
- The Seidel Award (2018)
As an active mentor, she advises multiple student organizations including the Purdue Air Race Classic Team (2017-2023) and Latino Professionals in Aerospace (2024-present). Her leadership extends to the Purdue Flight Operations Hiring Committee (2018-present) and coordination of the Able Flight program (2016-2020), where she redesigned curricula for online instruction during the pandemic. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes understanding learner backgrounds to reduce fear and build resilience in technical training environments.
Dr. Duran Trinidad maintains operational expertise through her Commercial Pilot certificates (ASEL, AMEL, Instrument) and CFII/MEI instructor ratings, ensuring her academic work remains grounded in real-world aviation practice. Her current PhD research focuses on applying learning design principles to aviation education systems.
