Lucas Villagra Torcomian is a Research Fellow at Simon Fraser University (SFU), holding a PIMS-Simons Postdoctoral Fellowship. He completed his Ph.D. in Mathematics at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina) in 2023 under the supervision of Ariel Pacetti. His research focuses on Number Theory, with emphasis on Diophantine equations, abelian varieties, Galois representations, and modular forms. He currently co-organizes the Number Theory and Algebraic Geometry seminar at SFU.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (2023)
Research Interests: Dr. Villagra Torcomian explores advanced topics in number theory, including the interplay between modular forms and Galois representations. His work often involves computational methods and theoretical frameworks to address Diophantine equations and properties of abelian varieties. Recent contributions include studies on Q-curves, Hecke characters, and applications to specific Diophantine problems, as reflected in his GitHub repositories.
Awards:
- PIMS-Simons Postdoctoral Fellowship
Advising & Collaboration: While no formal advisees/students are listed, his involvement in seminars and open-source projects (e.g., GitHub) indicates collaborative research and mentorship roles. His work has been supported by grants tied to his postdoctoral fellowship.
Labs/Teams: Active contributor to SFU’s Number Theory group and collaborator with Imin Chen. Maintains an open-source repository portfolio focused on computational number theory tools and problem-solving (e.g., repositories like Fifth-powers and On-the-equation-26p).
