Lucas Carr is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Human Physiology at the University of Iowa, serving as Director of Undergraduate Studies for Exercise Science, Health Promotion, and Health Studies programs and Director of the Community Health Collaborative.
He holds a PhD in Physiology from the University of Wyoming, with expertise spanning behavioral medicine and public health interventions.
Dr. Carr's research centers on designing evidence-based solutions to improve lifestyle health behaviors among at-risk populations, emphasizing physical activity interventions, health promotion program development, and community-engaged research. His work addresses critical gaps in healthcare delivery systems, particularly regarding exercise prescription and underserved community access.
He mentors graduate researchers including PhD candidate Lisa VanWiel (studying physical activity's impact on urinary incontinence and cardiovascular risk) and Master's-to-PhD student Jenna Springer, while supervising undergraduate projects like Leah Aitchison's Exercise is Medicine research.
As director of the Behavioral Medicine Laboratory and Community Health Collaborative, he leads interdisciplinary partnerships with Hartford Healthcare on translational projects focused on billing mechanisms for exercise interventions and patient-provider communication strategies.
