Luca Salvadori

Luca Salvadori is a Lecturer in Economics and Serra Húnter Fellow (tenure-track) at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), where he is affiliated with the Department of Economics in the College of Economics and Business. He holds research affiliations with the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE), the ESRC Tax Administration Research Centre (TARC) at the University of Exeter, the Barcelona Institute of Economics (IEB), and the Dondena Research Centre at Bocconi University.

Research Interests: His work centers on public economics, with a focus on taxation, tax administration, fiscal federalism, and applied microeconomics. He investigates how tax enforcement and administrative capacity influence state effectiveness and revenue collection, particularly in developing and decentralized contexts. His research integrates empirical methods with policy relevance, often drawing on field data and institutional analysis.

His recent publications span topics such as tax compliance, fiscal capacity, decentralization, and digitalization in tax systems. These works appear in leading journals including the Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, and International Tax and Public Finance, reflecting a consistent focus on governance, institutional design, and policy impact across national and subnational levels.

Grants and Research Leadership: He has participated in competitive research projects funded by the Ramón Areces Foundation, ESRC, European Commission (DG TAXUD, DG EMPL), Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and the Catalan Government. He has also collaborated on policy-oriented studies for the Catalan Tax Agency, Regional Council of Lombardy, and other public entities. Notably, he co-organized a Special Issue for CESifo Economic Studies on 'Fiscal Capacity, Tax Compliance and Development.'

Labs and Research Teams: He is actively involved with multiple research groups, including the Welfare State and Taxation Unit at Bocconi’s Dondena Centre, the Fiscal Federalism Observatory at IEB, and the Tax Administration Research Centre (TARC), contributing to collaborative, interdisciplinary research on taxation and public policy.
