Luca Queirolo Palmas is an Associate Professor in Sociology of Cultural and Media Processes at the University of Genoa, Italy, within the Department of Educational Sciences (School of Social Sciences). He co-directs Mondi Migranti, a journal focusing on international migration studies. His research centers on migration, borders, visual sociology, and youth cultures, with a focus on Mediterranean routes and solidarity networks. He has held visiting roles at institutions in Barcelona, Quito, New York, and Tunis.
Research Interests:
- Migration policies and border control mechanisms in Europe and North Africa
- Visual ethnography methodologies
- Solidarity networks among migrants and grassroots movements
- Youth cultures and gang dynamics in transnational contexts
His recent work analyzes migrant routes through ethnographic fieldwork, examining how borders shape migrant agency and solidarity. Notable projects include ERANET-TRANSGANG on youth gangs and collaborations with French and Tunisian institutions. His articles explore themes like the 'Calais Jungle' aftermath, Italian-French border dynamics, and migrant agency in Ceuta/Melilla.
