Luca Calatroni is an Associate Professor at the University of Genoa, affiliated with the Machine Learning Genoa Center (MaLGa) and the Molecular Microscopy and Spectroscopy team at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT). He is also a CNRS Researcher (Chargé de Recherche) in the Morpheme team at the I3S laboratory, Université Côte d'Azur, France, currently on leave since November 2024.
His research focuses on modeling and optimizing mathematical signal/image processing problems, particularly in variational reconstruction methods, non-smooth optimization, and physics-inspired learning for applications in computational microscopy, digital restoration of artworks, and bio-inspired vision models. He leads the ERC Starting Grant MALIN project on super-resolution in fluorescence microscopy and contributed to the ANR-funded TASKABILE and MICROBLIND projects.
Scientific Contributions
- ERC Starting Grant recipient for MALIN (Model-aware learning for imaging inverse problems in fluorescence microscopy)
- Collaboration with the Developmental Biology Laboratory in Villefranche-sur-Mer for algae toxicity analysis
- Co-organizer of international workshops like the Imaging & Learning pre-course at the Erasmus+ PhD school and (Blind) inverse problems in imaging at CIRM Marseille
Luca actively mentors researchers and seeks motivated candidates for collaborative work in his fields of expertise.
