معرفی
Luca Bignardi is a Fixed-term Researcher in the Department of Physics at the University of Trieste. He serves in multiple roles including as a Delegate for Incoming Orientation in the Management Office, a Member of the Department Council, and a Member of Course of Study Recommendations committees for both the SM20 and SM23 Physics programs. His research focuses on experimental physics of matter and applications, with particular emphasis on materials science and energy-related topics.
Dr. Bignardi's research interests span across several areas of experimental physics, with a strong focus on materials science. His work involves computational modeling of materials for energy storage applications, investigating the electronic properties of bulk-selected clusters of sulfurized tungsten and molybdenum, and exploring advanced materials systems for various technological applications. His research combines theoretical modeling with experimental validation to address challenges in energy storage and conversion. The interdisciplinary nature of his work bridges physics, materials science, and engineering, with applications in renewable energy technologies and advanced materials development.
Analysis of Dr. Bignardi's recent publications reveals a strong focus on nanoscale materials characterization and surface science. His work spans across 2D materials like graphene and borophene, metal clusters and nanoparticles, and energy-related applications including water splitting and hydrogen storage. The research employs advanced characterization techniques such as synchrotron-based core-level photoelectron spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction to investigate atomic-scale phenomena. Notably, his work explores the unique properties that emerge at the nanoscale, where conventional relationships between structure and properties break down, opening new avenues for materials design.
Dr. Bignardi actively participates in significant research projects including
- Materials modeling for energy storage applications funded by the Ministry of University and Research, where he serves as a Participant
- Electronic properties of bulk-selected clusters of sulfurized W and Mo funded by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, where he serves as Scientific Director
