Dr Lu Xu serves as Senior Lecturer in Property Law at Lancaster University Law School, a position he has held since September 2014. Previously, he was Lecturer in Property Law at the University of East Anglia (2007-2014) and Tutor in Law at the University of Strathclyde (2004-2007), establishing a distinguished career in legal academia spanning over 15 years.
His educational foundation includes a first-class honours law degree from Robert Gordon University, an LLM in Property Law with Distinction from the University of Aberdeen, and a PhD from the University of Strathclyde funded by the Campbell Burns Scholarship. These qualifications underpin his expertise in complex property law systems across multiple jurisdictions.
Dr Xu's research centers on comparative property law with deep specialization in English land law, Scottish property law, and Chinese real property systems. His investigations into land registration mechanisms and subsidiary interests—including easements, servitudes, covenants, and real burdens—reveal critical insights into how legal frameworks govern spatial relationships. His work on apartment ownership law demonstrates particular innovation in addressing modern housing challenges through historical legal concepts.
Analysis of his publication record since 2008 shows a strategic evolution from traditional English and Scots property law toward increasingly sophisticated comparative studies involving Chinese legal developments. His recent focus on online courts, environmental litigation, and case law systems reflects engagement with contemporary global legal transformations while maintaining core expertise in land registration reforms.
His scholarly contributions have been recognized through the Campbell Burns Scholarship during doctoral studies.
