Professor Louise Sharpe is a Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney and serves as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Researcher Training). Her research focuses on chronic pain management, psychological interventions for chronic health conditions, and the psychological impact of medical outcomes such as fear of cancer recurrence. She leads the Clinical Psychology Unit and is a member of the Charles Perkins Centre.
Her work spans clinical psychology, health psychology, and behavioral medicine. Key areas include nocebo effects, mindfulness-based interventions, and transdiagnostic psychological models. Recent grants include studies on socially-induced nocebo effects and memory in childbirth-related trauma.
Professor Sharpe has supervised multiple research students and contributed to over 450 publications. She has pioneered digital mental health interventions, such as iConquerFear for cancer recurrence anxiety, and has been recognized for her leadership in researcher training and palliative care psychology.
