Dr Louise Hewitt is an Associate Professor in Law and Undergraduate Hub Lead at the University of Greenwich. She co-founded the Innocence Project London (IPL), a pro-bono law clinic addressing wrongful convictions, which is the first UK member of the international Innocence Network. The IPL also serves as a placement provider for Criminology and Law students, including those from the University of North Carolina. She teaches Law of Evidence, Transnational Organized Illegal Networks, and previously Law of Torts. Her research focuses on innocence work in clinical legal education, hate crime legislation, international counter-terrorism, and criminal justice system reforms.

Recipient of the 2021 National Teaching Fellowship for innovative pedagogy in clinical legal education, and a Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2020). She has presented her work internationally and actively contributes to policy discussions on wrongful convictions and justice system improvements.
Advising and grants: Supervises student projects via the IPL, integrating practical legal training with academic research. The IPL’s charity status (since 2020) supports its mission to exonerate wrongfully convicted individuals.
Labs/Teams: Director of the Innocence Project London, leading a multidisciplinary team of students and legal professionals.
