استاد · Electric power systems reliability management and optimal decision making under uncertainties
Graz University of Technologyمعرفی
Louis Wehenkel is a Full Professor at the University of Liège, where he has been affiliated since 1988. He served as Director of the Montefiore Institute Research Unit (2016-2022) and Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (2011-2014). His work bridges theoretical and applied research in complex systems.
- Education: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Electronics, 1986), Ph.D. (1990), and Thèse d'agrégation (1994), all from the University of Liège.
His research focuses on stochastic methods for modelling, optimisation, machine learning, and data mining, applied to large-scale power systems planning/operation/control, industrial process control, bioinformatics, and computer vision. These areas reflect his dual expertise in methodological development and real-world system optimization.
His accolades include the 2019 SIMONS Foundation Fellowship, 2007 Emeritus Membership in the Société de l’Electricité, and early-career prizes from SIEMENS (1996) and IBM Belgium (1987).
Notable roles include Scientific Advisor for the GARPUR European FP7 project (2013-2017) and sabbatical contributions to the Mathematics of Energy Systems program at Cambridge's Isaac Newton Institute (2019).
