Louis Bont is a Full Professor in Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases at the University Medical Center Utrecht (The Netherlands), leading the Utrecht RSV Research Group and coordinating the European Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases’ Respiratory Infections Interest Group. He chairs ReSViNET, an international RSV research consortium, and founded the TULIPS career training program for young researchers. His advisory roles include the WHO, ECDC, and Europarliament.
Education: Medical degree from the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam (1989-1996) and PhD under Professors Jan Kimpen and Cobi Heijnen (1997-2000).
Research focuses on RSV pathogenesis, global health equity in respiratory infections, and immune response modulation. Key projects include economic burden analyses of RSV in low-resource countries and vaccine development pathways. His pediatric immunology team explores interventions to prevent immune-driven diseases.
