معرفی
Prof. Louis-André Hamel is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics at the Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. His expertise lies in semiconductor detector technology for nuclear research and astrophysics, particularly focusing on cadmium-zinc-telluride (CdZnTe) detectors and amorphous silicon-based devices. He has collaborated with institutions like the University of Arizona and NASA to develop high-resolution gamma-ray imaging systems.
- Research Projects:
- Co-researcher on the 2012-2015 IRSC-funded project “Development of an Automated Blood Counter for Quantitative Molecular Imaging Applications” (Principal Investigator: Philippe Després).
- Recipient of NASA funding in 2001 for gamma-ray detection research.
- Teaching: Teaches advanced electromagnetism courses and supervises students in semiconductor detector modeling, charge transport in amorphous silicon, and CdZnTe detector design.
His research emphasizes optimizing detectors for dual energy-position resolution and minimizing electronic channels. Key contributions include advancing CdZnTe detector technology for astrophysical imaging and semiconductor-based blood counting systems. Over 20 years, he has mentored 6 graduate students in topics ranging from semiconductor modeling to particle detector design.
Lab affiliations include collaborations with experimental astrophysics teams at the Université de Montréal, leveraging expertise in solid-state detector fabrication and space science applications.
