Louis A. Merlin

Dr. Louis A. Merlin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University, where he also serves as Program Coordinator for the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program. He holds a BA in Mathematics from Yale University and graduate degrees in Operations Research and City and Regional Planning from Georgia Tech. His research develops mathematical models for urban policy questions, particularly focusing on integrating transportation and land use planning through accessibility-based performance measures.

Dr. Merlin's professional background includes work as an urban planning consultant for EDAW | AECOM, where he engaged in comprehensive planning, redevelopment planning, and corridor planning for governments across the southeastern US. He co-authored the book From Mobility to Accessibility: Transforming Transport and Land-Use Planning, which advocates for shifting transportation planning from vehicular speeds to multi-modal accessibility.
