Lou Cornum is an Assistant Professor of Native American Studies at New York University's Department of Social and Cultural Analysis within the College of Arts & Science. They hold a Ph.D. in English from the CUNY Graduate Center, an M.A. from the University of British Columbia, and a B.A. from Columbia University.
Research focuses on Critical Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Futurism, and decolonial engagements with science fiction. Current work includes a book project on Lunar Landings: Critical Indigenous Studies and the Colonization of Space, and studies of the 'irradiated international' affected by nuclear activities. They co-edited a 2020 special issue of Canadian Literature on decolonial sci-fi and contribute to Pinko Magazine's editorial board.
Prior to NYU, Cornum held an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in Native American Studies at Wesleyan University. They are an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. Research outputs include articles on Indigenous futurism in History of the Present and nuclear histories in Critical Ethnic Studies.
