Lorraine Porteous is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Edinburgh affiliated with the Centre of African Studies and serves as Associate Director of Research for Aspen People Ltd. With over twenty-five years of international experience, she specializes in stabilization, conflict resolution, and global health policy in fragile states across Eastern Europe, Balkans, Central Asia, Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan, and South Pacific.
Her educational background includes:
- MBA from the University of Edinburgh
- M.Litt. in Middle East & Central Asia Security Studies from St Andrews University
- Registered nurse, midwife, and health visitor credentials
Her research spans fragile states, conflict resolution, MENA/Central Asia security interventions, and global health systems, informed by direct field experience in politically sensitive environments. She has conducted strategic reviews, ministerial engagements, and complex improvement plans for governments and international bodies.
Ms. Porteous holds key roles as a UK Government Stabilization Unit civilian expert, University of Leicester Security Panel member, and former NATO Virginia fusion center advisor in Afghanistan. She has collaborated with major organizations including World Bank, European Union, USAID, NATO, UN, and Swiss Red Cross on stabilization and health initiatives.
