Dr. Lorna Dillon is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the Centre of Latin American Studies and the Department of History of Art. Her research focuses on Latin American art and culture, particularly textile art, the work of Chilean artist Violeta Parra, and transnational art movements linked to human rights activism. She explores themes such as cultural hybridity, social justice, and feminist art practices in Abya Yala (Latin America). Dillon has curated exhibitions like What lies Beneath: Women, Politics, Textiles and co-edited volumes on Violeta Parra's life and work. Her academic positions include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students and serving on committees such as the Latin American Studies Association Visual Culture Section.
Her awards include fellowships from the Leverhulme Trust, British Academy, and Arts and Humanities Research Council. Notable publications include Violeta Parra’s Visual Art: Painted Songs (2020) and peer-reviewed articles on textile activism and Latin American art history. Dillon’s work bridges academic research with public engagement, advocating for marginalized art forms and their role in social movements.
