معرفی
Lorna Deeth is an Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of Guelph and Faculty Advisor for the Master of Data Science Program. She holds roles including Coordinator of the Statistics Learning Centre (2019–present) and Ontario Representative for the Statistical Society of Canada (2017–2018, 2019–2020). Her research focuses on infectious disease modelling, spatial/spatiotemporal statistical methods, and environmental monitoring, with applications to veterinary epidemiology, ecotoxicology, and ecotoxicology. She has developed novel statistical frameworks for reducing computational burdens in individual-level disease models and has collaborated on bioremediation and pesticide impact studies.
Education:
- B.Sc. in Statistics, University of Guelph (2005)
- M.Sc. in Statistics, University of Guelph (2007)
- Ph.D. in Statistics, University of Guelph (2012)
Her research trends emphasize balancing model complexity and computational efficiency, particularly through spatial aggregation techniques and Bayesian computation. Recent work critiques citation biases in ecotoxicology literature and evaluates algal bioremediation efficacy in contaminated waters.
Awards:
- Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award, College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (2018)
- NSERC Discovery Grant (Early Career Researcher) and Discovery Launch Supplement (2018)
Advising & Grants:
- Supervised projects on influenza outbreak prediction (Neil Faught, 2016), environmental monitoring models (Wenjun Yang, 2015), and experimental design in R (Madeline Ward, 2017)
- Recipient of NSERC grants supporting computational epidemiology and ecotoxicology research
Labs/Teams: Leads the Statistics Learning Centre, collaborates with veterinary epidemiology teams, and contributes to environmental monitoring initiatives at the University of Guelph.
