Lorna Anguilano

Lorna Anguilano is a Senior Research Fellow at Brunel University London within the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences. She serves as Director of the Experimental Techniques Centre (ETC) and Assistant Director of the Wolfson Centre for Sustainable Materials Development and Processing. Her academic background includes a PhD in Archaeometallurgy with extensive expertise in material characterization techniques including X-Ray Diffraction, X-Ray Fluorescence, Scanning Electron Microscopy and Electron Back-Scattering Diffraction.

Dr. Anguilano's research focuses on upcycling waste and recovery of secondary raw materials, with particular emphasis on metal and polymer recycling for energy and aquaculture applications, phytomining of critical raw materials, and ongoing archaeometallurgical studies. Her work bridges sustainable materials engineering with historical metallurgical practices.

Her recent publication portfolio demonstrates interdisciplinary research spanning sustainable materials, waste valorization, structural engineering, and archaeometallurgy. Key trends include bioplastics development from seaweed, concrete retrofitting technologies, medical waste sustainability, and advanced material characterization techniques for both contemporary and historical applications.

As Quality Manager of the Experimental Techniques Centre, she provides consultancy in material characterization and failure diagnosis while actively developing research in materials characterization and development. Her leadership extends to directing research centers focused on sustainable materials processing and experimental techniques.
