Lori Khatchadourian is an Associate Professor at Cornell University's Department of Anthropology, specializing in archaeology, social anthropology, and critical heritage studies with a focus on Armenia and the South Caucasus. Her research examines empire, materiality, Soviet socialism’s aftermath, and heritage politics.
- PhD and MA in Classical Art & Archaeology from University of Michigan
- MSc in Russian & Post-Soviet Studies from London School of Economics
- BA in Classics and Government from Georgetown University
Her research spans from ancient Persian imperialism (book Imperial Matter) to contemporary post-Soviet materiality through projects like the Afterlife of Socialist Modernity and Caucasus Heritage Watch. She co-directs Project ArAGATS, Landscapes and Objects Laboratory, and Aragats Foundation.
Her recent publications analyze Soviet industrial ruins, heritage monitoring via satellite imagery, and Bronze Age chronologies. She contributes to debates on material theory, cultural preservation, and archaeology of the recent past.
