Lori Alison Newman is Assistant Professor of Psychological Science at Vassar College, with affiliations in the Neuroscience and Behavior program. Her research examines astrocyte functions in cognition and their role in neurodegenerative/neuropsychiatric disorders.
Using neurochemical approaches combined with behavioral assays, her lab investigates how astrocytes influence synaptic connections and neural signaling during cognitive processes. This work aims to identify therapeutic targets for conditions like Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia.
Professor Newman contributes to Vassar's Beckman Scholars program supporting undergraduate research in science. She teaches courses in Psychological Sciences and Neuroscience & Behavior.
