Lorenzo Neri is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for Accounting with Finance at the Birkbeck Business School, part of Birkbeck, University of London. He holds a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Florence and has held roles as Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor there. He was a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University and NYU Stern School of Business in New York. Previously, he worked at KPMG Italy as a tax and business consultant focusing on financial reporting and M&A due diligence.
His research interests include Corporate Governance, Earnings Management, Financial Reporting, Risk Disclosure, and Voluntary Disclosure. He has supervised one doctoral student, Stephen Kataya, whose thesis explored the relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and economic growth. He teaches modules such as Financial Reporting, Principles of Accounting, and Management Accounting & Decision Making.
His publications span topics like integrated reporting frameworks, board diversity impacts on financial misreporting, and risk disclosure practices in China. He has also contributed to studies on football transfer accounting in Italian Serie A and the historical evolution of accounting research in Italy. His work bridges academic research with practical applications in auditing, taxation, and corporate finance.
