Lorenzo Giachetti is an Associate Teaching Professor of French in the Department of French & Italian Studies at the University of Washington. He holds a Ph.D. in French from Stanford University (2015). His expertise includes 20th-century applied linguistics, film studies, French second language acquisition, and translation/interpretation. He teaches French and Italian across all proficiency levels and leads an upper-level course on media, politics, and current events in the Francophone world.
Between 2020–2024, he served as the Department's first Director of Language Programs and as faculty liaison for the UW in the High School French program. He co-authored the North American editions of Défi francophone 1 (2021) and Défi francophone 2 (2022), widely used textbooks in language education. His office is located in PDL C-246, and appointments are available via email.
Giachetti’s work bridges pedagogical innovation and cultural studies, emphasizing practical language application in real-world contexts. He actively contributes to curriculum design and community outreach initiatives through the Department’s programs.
