Lorenzo Faraone is a Professor at The University of Western Australia (UWA), leading the Microelectronics Research Group (MRG) and directing the WA Node of the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF). He holds prestigious titles including Fellow of the IEEE, Australian Academy of Science, and Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, alongside being an Order of Australia (AM) member.
His career spans over 30 years, with prior research at RCA Labs in silicon CMOS and non-volatile memory. At UWA, he focuses on compound semiconductors, infrared sensors, MEMS technologies, and molecular beam epitaxy. Notable achievements include over 300 journal publications, 40+ PhD supervisions, and contributions to UN Sustainable Development Goals through advanced sensor technologies.
Research emphases include thin film engineering, optoelectronic devices, and magneto-transport analysis. His work bridges semiconductor physics with applications in defense, environmental monitoring, and telecommunications. Current projects involve metamaterials for infrared filtering and quantum well-based photodetection systems.
