Lonnie Athens is a Professor of Criminal Justice at Seton Hall University’s Department of Sociology Anthropology and Criminal Justice. His research focuses on criminology, domination, violence, and naturalistic methods. He has authored seminal works such as Domination and Subjugation in Everyday Life and The Creation of Dangerous Violent Criminals. Athens holds leadership roles in academic societies like the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction (president, 2006-2007) and has been awarded the 2007 George H. Mead Award for lifetime achievement and 2008 Seton Hall Researcher of the Year.
