Long Bao Bui

Long Bao Bui is a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of History at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He holds a PhD in History from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (2016), an MA in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in English Literature from Pomona College.

His research focuses on personal privacy, gender roles, and epistolary practices during the American Civil War, as evidenced by his dissertation and current book manuscript titled Mail Intimacy: Gender Roles and Epistolary Privacy during the Civil War. He also teaches a diverse range of courses, including military history, women and gender history, food politics, human rights, Jane Austen studies, and film and media studies. Bui is an active member of professional organizations such as the Organization of American Historians and the Society of Civil War Historians.

In addition to his academic work, Bui is an avid Argentine tango dancer, having engaged with tango communities worldwide.
