معرفی
Dr. Lluís Blancafort is an Associate Professor at the University of Girona (IQCC) and a leading researcher in excited-state dynamics and non-adiabatic processes. His work focuses on computational modeling of photochemical mechanisms, including melanin photochemistry, aggregation-induced emission (AIE), and photocatalysis on surfaces. He holds a PhD from the University of Würzburg (1996) and conducted postdoctoral research at King’s College London (1997–2002). Blancafort has directed the IQCC and leads research projects funded by the European Union and industry partners.
Education
- Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering, Institut Químic de Sarrià, Barcelona (1991)
- PhD in Chemistry, University of Würzburg (1996)
Research Interests
Blancafort’s research spans theoretical studies of excited states in biological chromophores, photovoltaic materials, and melanin. His lab develops computational methods to model conical intersections, AIE mechanisms, and photocatalytic reactivity. Key areas include:
- Photochemical mechanisms of eumelanin and AIEgens
- Conical intersection dynamics in biomolecules
- Photocatalysis on semiconductor surfaces
Funding & Collaborations
Current projects include:
- MCIU Project PID2022-138062NB-I00: 'Simulating Phase Effects on Excited States' (€131,250)
- FRINGE FET-OPEN: Gd-based photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy
Collaborators include Ben-Zhong Tang (HKUST), Bern Kohler (Ohio State), and Samuel Leutwyler (University of Bern).
Students & Labs
Blancafort supervises a team of PhD students and postdocs, focusing on projects like melanin oligomer modeling and AIEgen photophysics. His group uses advanced computational tools like ab initio methods and machine learning.
