Livio Gibelli

Dr. Livio Gibelli is Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Edinburgh's School of Engineering, specializing in kinetic theory and multiscale thermofluids. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Nanjing University of Technology and conducts research through the Multiscale Thermofluids Research Institute.

His primary research explores:

• Kinetic theory applications to rarefied gas dynamics and nanoscale flows
• Boltzmann equation solutions for nonequilibrium systems
• Multiscale modeling approaches coupling molecular and continuum methods
• Behavioral crowd dynamics and evacuation modeling

Publications demonstrate strong focus on gas-surface interactions, nanoscale transport phenomena, and social crowd modeling, with recent work advancing simulation techniques for industrial applications. Research projects include EPSRC-funded Multiscale Simulation of Rarefied Gas Flow for Engineering Design (2021-2024).
