Dr. Lisette van der Meer is an Associate Professor at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, Department of Clinical & Developmental Neuropsychology. She holds dual roles as a Senior Researcher at Lentis Psychiatric Institute and Director of the Center of Expertise Social Sciences Health & Well-being. Her research focuses on cognitive rehabilitation, identity development, and social inclusion for individuals with severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. She leads the Group for Rehabilitation and Innovation in Psychiatry (GRIP), bridging clinical practice and academic research.
Education: PhD in cognitive neuropsychiatry (2011) from the University of Groningen. Research interests include psychiatric rehabilitation, cognitive adaptation training, and digital identity interventions. Notable projects include the Buddy Program, linking psychology students with psychiatric patients to foster societal reconnection, and the REAL study on neurostimulation in mental health.
Awards include the 2024 'Social identity conflict and indicators of well being' prize. Supervises PhD candidates in neuropsychology and clinical psychology. Active in interdisciplinary collaborations and policy initiatives to improve mental healthcare access and quality.
