Liselott Årestedt is a Professor at Linnaeus University, affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and the Department of Health and Care Sciences. She leads the innovative Cardiac Arrest REsearch group (iCARE) and serves as a statistical advisor for the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. Her academic journey began with nursing education, specializing in intensive care, and she earned her doctorate from Lund University in 2007 with research focused on health-related quality of life in elderly patients with chronic heart failure.
Årestedt's research spans cardiovascular care, cardiac arrest survival, palliative care, and patient participation in healthcare. Her work emphasizes family-centered care for those living with chronic illness and methodological development in healthcare research. She has built an extensive research program examining patient participation across various care settings, particularly in kidney care and dialysis. Her publications demonstrate a consistent focus on qualitative methodologies, patient perspectives, and healthcare quality improvement.
Her recent publications (2021-2025) show a strong emphasis on patient participation in kidney care, pedagogical challenges in nursing education, and process evaluations of person-centered care interventions. These works predominantly employ mixed-methods approaches, combining qualitative insights with quantitative measurements to assess healthcare interventions and patient experiences. Her research demonstrates interdisciplinary collaboration across nursing, psychology, and medical specialties.
As an educator, Årestedt teaches at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels, primarily in scientific methodology, statistics, and psychometrics. She supervises master's and doctoral students in nursing science and provides methodological consultation through the Kalmar Region researcher guidance program. Her leadership extends to directing the Health Outcome Measurements research group (HOMe) and contributing to national committees including the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation's PROM working group and the Cancer Fund's prioritization committee.
