Lise Arleth

Lise Arleth serves as Professor in Experimental Biophysics and Associate Dean for Research at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, where she leads the X-ray and Neutron Science Group at the Niels Bohr Institute. Her academic career spans over two decades with progressive appointments from Assistant Professor to full Professor, including significant leadership roles such as Head of the PhD School at KU-Life and Head of Studies for Physics at the Niels Bohr Institute.

Her educational background includes an M.Sc. in Physics and Mathematics from Roskilde University (1995) with international research stays in Paris, followed by a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Risø National Laboratory and the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (2002). Her postdoctoral training included positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and multiple international research institutions.

Arleth's research specializes in solution small-angle scattering techniques (SAXS and SANS) for investigating self-assembling and colloidal systems with biological, biotechnological, and pharmaceutical relevance. Her work focuses on lipid-protein co-structures including nanodiscs and high-density lipoproteins for membrane protein studies. She maintains strong engagement with major international facilities including the European Spallation Source (ESS) and Max-IV synchrotron, where she serves on multiple scientific advisory committees and the Max-IV Board.

Her publication record includes 81 peer-reviewed papers with approximately 2,500 citations and an H-index of 27. Her research group maintains extensive national and international collaborations across academia and industry, particularly with Novo Nordisk, Novozymes, and Biomodics. She has secured substantial research funding totaling approximately 650,000 EUR annually, including major grants from the Danish Research Foundation, Innovation Fund Denmark, Novo Nordisk Foundation, and Lundbeck Foundation.

As an educator, Arleth has supervised 14 PhD students (11 graduated) and 18 postdoctoral researchers, while teaching at all academic levels. Her administrative leadership includes serving on the NBI Research Council and Research Funding Committee since 2019, and previously leading large academic units serving over 700 PhD and 750 physics students.
