Lisa Winberg von Friesen

Lisa Winberg von Friesen is a postdoctoral researcher in marine ecology at Linnaeus University, affiliated with the Department of Biology and Environment under the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. Her work centers on the interplay between marine microorganisms, ecosystem functionality, and climate regulation.

• Focus: Marine microorganisms (bacteria, phytoplankton) in Arctic and Baltic Seas
• Key areas: Biogeochemical cycles of carbon and nitrogen, picophytoplankton dynamics
• Methods: Molecular techniques (DNA/RNA), stable isotopes, flow cytometry

She is actively involved in international Arctic research initiatives, including the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and ICARP IV, and leads projects like the Arctic expedition - Synoptic Arctic Survey-SAS Oden 2021. Her research groups include the Linnaeus Microbial Observatory (LMO) and the Linnaeus University Centre for Ecology and Evolution in Microbial Model Systems (EEMiS).

Lisa supervises students in project courses and degree theses and collaborates with institutions in Canada and Germany during Arctic expeditions aboard the icebreaker RV Polarstern.
