Dr. Lisa Wiltbank is a Professor of Microbiology at Weber State University's College of Science. She holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University and a B.S. from Brigham Young University. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes student engagement through structured and guided learning environments, focusing on courses like Introductory Microbiology, Environmental Health, and Microbiology Seminar. Her research explores photosynthetic bacteria, particularly cyanobacteria's light-sensing mechanisms, and microbiology education, including student perceptions of microbes post-COVID-19. She actively invites students to join her research projects on microbial light responses and societal views of germs.
Education: Ph.D., Indiana University; B.S., Brigham Young University. Contact: lisawiltbank@weber.edu, Tracy Hall Science Center 450H.
Research interests include understanding how cyanobacteria utilize photoreceptors for light harvesting and bioenergy applications, as well as investigating public perception of microbes through student surveys. Her work bridges fundamental microbiology with educational strategies to enhance science literacy.
