Lisa Wedeen is the Mary R. Morton Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science and the College at the University of Chicago, and Director of the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and serves as Associate Faculty in Anthropology. Her research bridges comparative politics, political theory, Middle East studies, feminist theory, and interpretive methods.

Her work examines authoritarianism, ideology, and symbolic politics through ethnographic and interpretive approaches. Recent edited volumes include Conspiracy/Theory (forthcoming 2024) and collaborative projects on cosmopolitanism and methodological pluralism. Current work explores violence and temporality.
